First of all, I will admit it. I am a super duper fraidy cat! I cannot stand horror movies. I went to see this movie out of love and support for Leo and was ready to walk out the moment the movie got too intense. The trailers led me to believe this movie might be more than I could handle. That wasn't at all the case. Despite what the trailers show, this movie is categorically a thriller. I'd throw in the tag of mystery in there too, for good measure. Bottom line, Leonardo doesn't disappoint. Once again he draws you in, as the masterful hero playing actor he is. Leo is essentially on shutter island to investigate an escapee from the the asylum,... you know what? I don't want to be a spoiler. There is no really good way to tell you about this movie without giving away key elements of the "what the hell?" parts to the storyline. My advice, if you are up to having your mind messed with a bit I suggest you go see this movie. Nice job Leo! *applause*

This movie was absolutely beautifully done! Now it is a fact that I am partial to independent flicks, my bias plays no role here. I can't express in simple words much I enjoyed this movie. Without giving you too much of the storyline, the movie begins with the newly divorced single mom Muna who lives in Palestine with her teenage son. Through an unexpected stroke of luck, they get the opportunity to come to the US to pursue the 'American Dream'. This movie gives a brilliant perspective on the pursuit of the American Dream that the average person perhaps never considers. Muna is truly a heroic woman... you will fall in love with this flick. Trust me. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer. I was so captivated by this family, their struggles and triumphs that I honestly didn't want it end. Listen to me now and thank me later, go see this movie. :-)

District 9

*sigh* where do I start? I really really wanted to LIKE this movie. I love sci-fi and I love history. The story line for this movie is presented as a documentary which makes it particularly more argumentably up my alley. But alas, I didn't love it. Truth be known, I didn't really like it all that much. District 9 was just ok to me. I know what you are thinking, the ratings are off the charts, everyone loves this film. Eh.. it just didn't do it for me. Maybe its because I was too quickly reminded up front how bad management decisions can have catasphrophic ramifications. This is no spoiler, but in the movie, the head dude selected to run the relocation program for the aliens, is only choosen for this very important role (and promotion) because his father in-law is a big wig that personally selected him. From there on in, gaffe after gaffe, stupid move after stupid move, I could only be brought back to the thought, 'see this is what happens when you put an incompetent clown in charge'. I guess in short, I felt completely annoyed throughout the flick... To make matters worse, the movie ended in a way that left this darn story WIDE open for a sequel. I'll wait for that one to hit cable.

Its never too late to be great! That's my summary of this movie. First of all, let it be known, I have a sincere bias here. Meryl Streep, to me, is the BEST ACTRESS ever known to industry. Don't challenge me ever on that FACT, unless you are prepared to risk our friendship. Back to the movie, its really a good movie. I enjoyed it thoroughly, but again I can see how this might not be a movie for everyone. But here's how you'll know if you will enjoy this movie: if you are a FOODIE you will dig this flick. And I mean a real FOODIE, not just someone who likes to EAT, that would make you an EATIE. Real FOODIES not only thoroughly enjoy eating, but they talk about meals they will have, they reminisce about meals they have had, and furthermore, they COOK. I'm not saying they are gourmets, but real FOODIES such as myself, cook and cook well, because, hey we love FOOD and must do it justice. But I digress, quite simply, this is a movie for the FOODIE. You end up learning so many interesting factoids about the legendary Julia Child that by the end of the movie she feels less like a gourmet super hero and more like your fun and crazy old aunt. FOODIES unite and go see this movie. You can thank me later for this recommendation with a cupcake or a BBQ'd short rib or something. :-)

Yeah that's an eh plus, although I thoroughly enjoyed this flick, I recognize that its not everyone's cup of tea. First things first, this movie is NOT a scary movie. Yes its darn and distrubing, but some how comical or at least to me and the quirky audience members of the theater in which I saw this movie. Yes that's right folks, either I have a sick sense of humour or this movie has some seriously funny momements. Yeah its the latter, I'm sure of it. I've position this movie as, if you are the type to watch and enjoy Law and Order type tv programs, you'll enjoy this film. Seriously, I can't emphasize enough that this movie it NOT scary at all. Creepy yes, scary not so much.

Here's the thing, while I love chick lit, I'm not a big fan of chick flicks. But this movie was actually a cut above the typical chick flick and therefore is a great date movie. Sandra Bullock is hiliarious as ever and that Ryan Reynolds is total eye candy. Betty White is also a fun character in the cast. The premise of the movie, albeit quite absurd, really draws you in. In case you are unfamiliar, (no spoiler here) Sandra Bullock's character is a powerful publishing executive who is also a canadian citizen with pending US citizenship. Through an unfortunate, well kinda, mishap on her part, her citizenship application is denied and she is informed that she will deported. Which of course, is when she pulls in her assistant (Ryan Reynolds), who absolutely despises her, to marry her... I really enjoyed this film. I don't want to give it all away, so be sure to check it out when you get the chance. You won't be sorry.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Its a cute movie. Some good life lessons embedded in the storyline and dialogue. However, it wasn't quite a funny as the previews led me to believe it would be. Plus, it was kinda short. It seemed like it was missing about another 20 minutes. Or maybe I'm too conditioned to watching human beings on screen as opposed to animation.

Seriously, I contend that this is the best movie I have seen all YEAR! The great thing is that you do not have to be a Trekkie to love it. I for one am a Trekkie not total geek show up to convention Trekkie, but well versed enough to get the inside jokes and references across the generations of star trek TV shows. The movie just gripes you within the first 45 seconds and you are hooked from there. I kid you not. Its exciting, its hilarious (like seriously laugh out loud tears in the corners of your eyes hilarious), its sentimental (a little romance and *gasp* bromance action).. its simply a classic; an absolutely, fantastic, well done movie that's well worth your precious dollar bills and time! I cannot endorse this movie enough!

Meanest mom on planet' sells son's car
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Jane Hambleton has dubbed herself the "meanest mom on the planet." After finding alcohol in her son's car, she decided to sell the car and share her 19-year-old's misdeed with everyone -- by placing an ad in the local newspaper.

The ad reads: "OLDS 1999 Intrigue. Totally uncool parents who obviously don't love teenage son, selling his car. Only driven for three weeks before snoopy mom who needs to get a life found booze under front seat. $3,700/offer. Call meanest mom on the planet."

Hambleton has heard from people besides interested buyers since recently placing the ad in The Des Moines Register.

The 48-year-old from Fort Dodge says she has fielded more than 70 telephone calls from emergency room technicians, nurses, school counselors and even a Georgia man who wanted to congratulate her.
"The ad cost a fortune, but you know what? I'm telling people what happened here," Hambleton says. "I'm not just gonna put the car for resale when there's nothing wrong with it, except the driver made a dumb decision.

"It's overwhelming the number of calls I've gotten from people saying 'Thank you, it's nice to see a responsible parent.' So far there are no calls from anyone saying, 'You're really strict. You're real overboard, lady."'
The only critic is her son, who Hambleton says is "very, very unhappy" with the ad and claims the alcohol was left by a passenger.

Hambleton believes her son but has decided mercy isn't the best policy in this case. She says she set two rules when she bought the car at Thanksgiving: No booze, and always keep it locked.

The car has been sold, but Hambleton says she will continue the ad for another week -- just for the feedback.

This weekend, my fantasy football team, The Pinky Tuscaderos, the underdog of the league.. once ranked as low as 7th has done what they all say could not be done. The Pinky Tuscaderos have secured their spot in the final round, the "Real Woman Love Football Fantasy Football SUPERBOWL".

There is a reason why I took a untimely yet temporary hiatus from blogging. Its a very painful experience that caused me to take immediate leave. I haven't actually disclosed it to anyone... well except for my BFF VeeGee. I've tried to bury the memory in the depths of my subconscious. However recent events have made it nearly impossible for me to keep this memory hidden. Its all over TV, radio, magazines... the release of the Nanny Diaries on DVD. *GULP*

As many of you avid ramdon fans, over the years I have taken to sharing movie reviews with my readers. I, a big chicklit fan, was incredibly excited for the release of the Nanny Diaries earlier this year. I planned a week's worth of activities just to be there for the opening night. Never has disappointment bestowed such a debilitating blow.

You see, sometimes a great book is made into a great movie (e.g. Harry Potter and *anything JK chooses*). Sometimes a great book is made into a good movie (e.g. the Namesake). Yet other times a good book is made into a GREAT movie, (e.g. Devil Wears Prada). Very rarely, does are GREAT book get made into a total STINKER of a movie (case: the nanny diaries).

After seeing that movie, I was so incredibly crestfallen and essentially lost. It took me months to come to terms with the fact that very bad things can happen to good storylines.

But there you have it folks. The reason why I had to step away from the blog over the past few months. If you haven't seen Nanny Diaries the movie, DON'T. Read the book and keep

The original shock jock, Petey Greene. Seriously, with menot being a native Washingtonian, I had no idea what to expect from this film. What got me into the theater to see this flick wat the one and only Don Cheadle, who in my opinion is on of the best actors in hollywood who rarely gets the credit he deservies for his genius. Don Cheadle did not disapoint. This movie is ridiculous and hilarious yet deeply moving and poignant at the sametime. I'm not sure what the other movie critics are saying about this film, but certainly gets the butterrfly stamp of approval.

If you are looking to laugh outloud you certainly need to hit the theater immediately to see this movie. In terms of dialog and witty banter this movie beats 12 and dare I say 11 (the classic remake **gasp**). The thing about it is that there are no surprises, you kinda know what's going on the whole time. The plot has the same superthief 'we are 4 steps ahead of you' elements that makes those criminals so gosh darn loveable. But despite the fact that you completely know how the story will play out, since they tell it all to you up front, its a great movie. They replaced thrills and suspense with pure com-moe-dee! Trust the butterrfly, you will enjoy this flick.

Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End

First of all.. Let me forewarn you. Be sure to get extra ice in your soda and make sure the a/c is on FULL BLAST when you see this in the theater, because that Orlando Bloom is smoking hot! I'm talking muy caliente jalepeno popper. Whew! Yeah, Orlando has definitely been drinking milk. He has come a long way since his elfin magic looks in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I was tempted to give this movie a BRAVO based on the Orlando Bloom hottie factor alone. Double whew!!

Okay.. back the movie. Honestly, I'm going to lay it out for you... this storyline will never end! Disney is making a killing on the PoC movie series! If you were one of the people, like me, who was disappointed by that question mark feeling you had at the end of of PoC 2.. I will tell you this movie is slightly better than that. A few questions are answered however, even more questions are posed. Seriously, they (Disney) will be making PoC movies until Johnny and/or Orlando cries uncle. Don't get me wrong, the movie is extremely entertaining. John Depp, aka Cap'n Jack Sparrow, will make you laugh out loud! That woozy drunken sissy girl run he does is still good for a laugh. His comedic timing is still second to none. Also, Keira Knightley's character is a bit more tolerable in this sequel, no more faux fainting spells to detract/attract attention. No no no, she certainly has found her girl power in this flick.

Don't get me wrong. You will be entertained. However, be prepared to know that it ain't over there will be another. Plus for your own sanity, I strongly suggest that you catch PoC 1 & 2 on cable preferably the morning or night before you go to see PoC 3. The storyline is very involved there are subtle nuances and hints that can be easily missed if the scenes from the prior two movies are not fresh in your mind. But above all, be ready for that Orlando Bloom. Once again in a word, HOT! triple whew!!!

Spiderman 3

This flick has all the special effects, dynamic fight scenes, thrills and suspense that you would expect from a Spiderman flick. The dialog and storyline isn't all that brilliant, its more of the same ole stuff.. seriously all three movies are starting to run together for me, but somehow I was thoroughly entertained. It certainly doesn't challenge you intellectually, but that not what a summertimeblockbuster is all about now is it. seriously, if you are a marvel comics fan or just a big kid wearing masquerading as an adult you'll enjoy this flick. My personal favorite scenes were Toby, aka Peter Parker, showing his alter ego, bopping through the streets of NYC like John Travolta in Saturday Night Live. lol.. that wasn't a spoiler -there are plenty of funny moments.. but geez you will laugh out loud to those 'cool Peter Pparker' scenes.

On a plane, in a 3 seat row, there are 2 pairs of arm rests. The question is, when the row is full (individuals each seated in the aisle, center and window seat), who should end up with both armrests. Believe it or not, I've heard arguments that the 'extra' armrest should go to the person seated in the window seat... I've heard equally fierce arguments that the 'extra' armrest should go to the person seated in the window seat. However, I have never heard anyone defend the poor schulb that ends up seated in the lonesome detestable middleseat.

Let's face it, no one in their right mind, travelling alone, who books in advanace purposely chooses that seat. No, middle seaters are typically, standby or late booking passengers so grateful to be on the plane that they ignore the fact they are sandwiched between two total strangers for an entire plane trip.

However, I personally think, the schulb should really get the double armrest. I know its an unpopular viewpoint. But the schulb really has no seating advantage. I mean the window seater can obviously look out of the window and even lean against it to catch a few zzz's. The aisle seater has that extra legroom moreover, has the quick exit advantage for both bathroom breaks and the deplaning process. The poor middleseated schulb has nothing.... nada.. zlich!

So I submit to you, that next time you are on a plane, allow the middleseated schulb to at least share the armrest with you. Who knows, one day you might miss your flight, and be cast into the world of schulb-dom... **cue to damning music**

Okay.. I don't know what you are up to on Monday nights at 9pm, but if you are NOT watching Heroes you are really wasting your evening. Words alone cannot describe how good this show is. The storyline is intricate but gripping to the point of being addictive. You know I have a fascination with superheroes so this show really hits home in a major way. It has all the elements the elements of quality sci fi: time travel, scientific-esque dialogue, questionable villians, multi-faceted storyline. I'm hooked I tell ya.

At first it I was just pulled in by the tag line "save the cheerleader save the world". Seriously, who wants to live in a cheerleader-less world? Yikes. Then they reeled me in hook line and sinker with the ultimate question, "are you on the list?". ...and we all know the answer to that! ;-)

This movie is from the indie flick side of life. Now before I go on, I will let you know that I am VERY biased because I read the book and absolutely LOVED it. I loved it so much that I gave the book as a christmas gift to a few folks this past year! It is ruly a favorite of mine. What's more interesting is that the reason I went out and bought and read the Namesake is because I first saw an early preview for the movie sometime last year. With all that said, it is really a twist in irony that I was so utterly disappointed with the way the editing team decided to butcher this storyline. I thought the movie kinda sucked. :-( But again I'm biased and I'm comparing what the movie was to what I know it could've been based on my knowledged gained from reading the book.

Now here's the twist for you, if you haven't read the book, go see this movie, you will enjoy it. Honestly, the character nuances that endear you to the storyline are absent but the basic storyline is there and it will be interesting for you because you simply don't know what you are missing. However, if you have read the book WAIT until this flick shows up on cable otherwise prepare to be annoyed.

Well the thing about this movie, you sort of know exactly what is up the whole time but the thrills, suspense and humour trump the predicable storyline. "The suspicious next door neighbor.. could he be *gulp* a serial killer???" The movie has a sort of a scooby doo mystery meets a high tech hardy boys/nancy drew kinda charm. Towards the end of the flick, I was waiting for the classic scooby doo line, "...and I would have gotten away with it ...if it weren't for those meddling kids!!!". But alas that didn't happen.

Seriously folks, this movie is surprisingly entertaining. Its not going to get an oscar ... well maybe a nomination or two for lighting and special effects. However, believe me when I tell you that Shia LeBeauf is going places, his acting is convincing and real. I enjoyed this flick. I think you will too. It doesn't rate quite on par with my true BRAVO picks.. hence the minus... but you will be entertained. Trust me. I wouldn't steer you wrong on this.

okay.. given recent headlines, I'm feeling a bit more politically charged than usual... But before I go on and/or you make any assumptions. I believe in the right to bear arms. Yup. that's right.. the numero dos on the bill of rights of the US Constitution I support it. BUT... and yes that is purposely a big BUT.... I do not believe that ...

* it should harder to get a driver's license than it is get a gun

* buying a gun should be as easy as buying a snickers bar at your local kmart

* states should have their own random gun laws

* we should have to continously wait until some horrific event occurs to raise this issue

Would it really be so unreasonable to have federal standards for gun ownership that includes a national registry and hmm... perhaps background checks to be sure the mentally disturbed and/or underage are prevented from buying firearms or at least ensure that local law enforcement is aware of gun purchases/ownernship?

Eh.. that's all I have to say about that....

Okay first of all I think Imus is just as reprehenible as Jay-Z, Snoop, Nelly, Ludacris, et al. They are ALL in the same camp in my opinion. Selling offensive lyrics/commentary for sake of the almighty dollar.

I think what people fail to understand is that Imus was fired because of MONEY. Not because he offended people, not because he is a politically incorrect a--hole. .. but because what he said started a snowball effect that threatened future revenue for CBS and MSNBC. Its about money not civil rights, freedom of speech or any other social topic that's trying to be thrown on the table.

Yes Imus has been a politically incorrect a--hole his whole career and as long as his show brought in money his bosses couldn't careless about the idiotic nonsense he spewed. But IMUS in a statement moved himself from a prized asset on the balance sheet to a fire hot red liability. That, in the world of business, is not tolerable by any employee. Try doing something at your place of employment that threatens millions of dollars of revenue and see how fast they kick you out on your *ss.

Keep in mind, Imus had a 2 week suspension until future revenue was threatened (Staples and Proctor & Gamble pulling advertising dollars). Its ALL about money folks... the reason the rappers rap about what they do and say what they do is because it makes MONEY for them and the record companies that sponsor them. Moreover, people (not just black people) buy their albums.

.. we live in a capitalistic society.. money talks... don't be fooled, CBS and MSNBC didn't pull IMUS' show to do the right thing for society... PULLEAZE.. they did what they felt they had to do in order to protect their balance sheet. The decision to fire Imus had nothing to do with what's fair, equitable or ethical... it had to do with protecting $$$.. protecting shareholder value.. stock prices et al.

money talks .. bullsh** walks.. happy trails Imus...don't let the door knob hit you in the *ss on the way out..

...or is everyone else equally distracted by these motorcoach buses, SUVs and minivans with their built in DVD systems? Honestly, when I'm driving, especially at night, I continuously find myself behind these vechicles with my eyes transfixed to the glowing light of the LCD screen within.

Perhaps it is just simple jealousy, for my ride is not equally tricked out. However, I really do think that these in car DVD players are a potential menance. Especially to nosey rosies such as myself.

yeah.. "eh" pretty much sums it up. Its an intriguing concept, 'I wake up one day Jim [my husband] is dead.. I wake up the next he's dead'. The movie starts off interestingly enough and you are actually drawn in. But, I will spoil this for you so stop here if you still plan to see this movie. At no point do they give you any explaination as to how or why she flipped back and forth through time. The movie had the potential to be an eerie thriller or even a science fantasy flick.. but it fizzled torward the middle then totally ran out of steam. I guess that's what really annoyed me with this flick plus the ending stunk. yeah.. you should definitely wait for the lifetime run of this movie.. this seems like a movie they would play 5x over on a Sunday. But don't waste your $$$ its totally not worth the movie ticket.

Okay, yeah..don't get it twisted. I am still a card carrying member of TEAM ANISTON, however I had to see this movie which stars Brad Pitt the other night to get an understanding of what all of the golden globe/ocar award nomination hoop-la is all about. Believe it or not there are still some theaters showing this flick. Anyway, the storyline is complicated, gritty and at times a tad graphic, however the you can't turn away for it at the very least is gripping. The most random act starts a chain of seemingly unrelated castastrophes. Yeah.. its a good flick. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Quite an entertaining movie but since it will probably be out of the theaters by the weekend, consider this for your next blockbuster/netflix night in. Trust me.. you know I would never steer you wrong.

Anyone who knows me well, knows that there is nothing that I appreciate and respect more than loyalty. YES, its true. I relish in it. So where I am going with this? Well, as many of you know, I have had a huge quandry for years, unable to keep any living form of plant life alive for more than a 2 to 3 weeks at time. Yes.. I have even had a catus that decided to give up on me.

But in a strange twist of fate, I have 2 .. yes that's right ONE, TWO poinsettia plants that have decided to stick it out with me. Yes, I do realize these plants are considered to be holiday plants, but they are actually tropical plants from Mexico I believe. Besides all that, hey, they love it here... they clearly have good taste. I affectionately call my dear plants "loyalty" and "faith". I even have them seated in primo direct sun light and water them regularly. I've even started talking to them on a regular basis. In return they show off their bright green leaves and crimson red petals and put a smile on my face as sure fire evidence to all that.... I AM NOT A PLANT KILLER!! All of those other plants were just suicidal.

OK. I know what you are saying "Are you serious?" but I assure you I am. I'll be the first to admit that my secret guilty pleasure is every now and again partaking in a straight to video worthy "blaxploitation film of the millennium" (think "Soul Plane"). It is also worth mentioning that I am a sucker for a dance/choreography-involved movie (still searing over the fact I never got to see "Step Up" - pardon me as I suck my teeth.) So when I purchased my matinee price ticket for STOMP THE YARD - I was indeed looking forward to two hours of potentially racially degrading, shuckin' and jivin'-ish material, infused with creative music and dance moves we haven't seen since the likes of Leroy from "Fame".

The fact that ever present poster girl for "Ghetto Flicks", Meghan Good (who stank up the place more than usual in this summer's "Waist Deep" along side the equally smelly, yet oh so fine, Tyrese seemed a definite assurance of my expectations)Boy was I wrong! What I experienced in the East NY Magic Johnson Multiplex (the only place it was showing. LOL) was a thoroughly entertaining, enjoyable cinematic experience that I did not want to end! The music and the moves were great! Columbus Short, the lead (who I understand from my 17 year old teeny bopper sister is of Disney Channel fame) - was a delight! But in addition to all that, they even had a half way decent story line with , get this, a positive message. I KNOW! It was phenomenal (yes I said phenomenal). It was part "U Got Served", part "Bring It On" with a dash of "School Daze" thrown in for good measure.and it came together beautifully.As a bonus the cast was great.

Columbus Short in a word AWESOME (he did his own dancing/stunts)..that choreographer guy from Soul Food (you know "pop-n-lock" - yeah I thought he was somewhere flipping biscuits for a living too.. but apparently he's been busy) was in it doing his thaa-ang. Teens will be pleased to see singing sensation Chris Brown among the credits. and my girl "Big Didi" from the now defunct UPN series "Half and Half" was representing (sadly with the same wig from the show - but eh.. limited budgets what can ya do).. Oh plus there were cameos from Keith Sweat and if I'm not mistaken.. Rickey Bell from New Edition, BBD fame.. OK I'll wrap up there. In my opinion.. not only is it worth the cost of a full price ticket plus snacks.. I'd say get the DVD too so you can watch it over and over again - perhaps pick up some of those snazzy moves to demo "L'il Magic style" at your next Par-Tay!

Now I will forewarn you, this is a good movie but it aint for everyone. Trust me on that. The movie features a twisted plot of deciet, betrayal, obsession, deviance ala a Lifetime movie with a Mary Kay Laturneau-esque meets Single White Female storyline combined with the overlay of good ole British cheer. Sidebar: what is it about a british accent that just draws us yankees in? Anyway, I digress. This movie will have you openly gasp with a distinct combination of disgust and shock during some scenes. However, I recommend it for an afternoon movie because there is alot of dialogue to follow. If you have a penchant for high drama and scandal then this flick is certainly for you.

Now normally I say if Clive Owen's in it..see it! Afterall not since Pierce Brosnan circa Remington Steele have I been so captivated by a white man with an accent (Sean Connery aside of course). But the usually tasty Mr. Owen was a tattered, shambles through the ENTIRE FILM.. I mean who did his hair? Fire that makeup artist...and forgoodness sakes don't let me get started on wardrobe (somebody get that guy a proper shoe!) I know what you're saying:"Isn't the movie about the virtual end of humanity due to society's inability to procreate which in turn would lead to an anarchaic state of affairs in which grooming would not be a pivitol issue?" -- Yeah, but that ain't the point. I pay my money for a Clive Owen flick I want the FULL MONTY... bring back the Clive of "Closer" and "Derailed" - ooh and let's not forget "Inside Man", but I digress.If you like movies that make sense, set the stage upfront to explain the series of subsequent events to follow..or offer you some sort of closure at the end - DON'T SEE THIS FILM! The only reason I don't give it the Butterrfly "PEE-YOU" rating is that I must admit the action scenes are off the chain! You like an explosion..you'll like this. On more than one occassion I exclaimed to myself "now that had to hurt"..Bottom line... wait for the DVD. Better yet, buy it bootleg at from your local "hustleman" - coming soon to a salon or barber near you...LOL.

this is my confession...

Okay folks…as it sit here sipping my (free) Starbucks venti skim caramel macchiato I am forced to reflect on my days of betrayal. Yes that’s right folks, I, for many weeks, almost months, have been involved in a horrible twisted tale of deceit, shame and guilt. But I’m back on track now. Back from the depths of treacherous denial and self shame. Luckily for me all has been forgiven, we can move on and start anew. I know many of you are beyond shocked by this news, as I have always maintained a grand image of being an intensely loyal and dedicated individual. What can I say other than mea culpa?

It all started so innocently. I remember that faithful day. It happened the day after thanksgiving to be exact. It was just so easy, so incredibly simple. Availability and accessibility can be the most tempting of temptations. It was that first sip that did me in. That’s right I said sip. I had a mug filled with Dunkin Donuts coffee, and I liked it. Actually I loved it. It was delish. Dare I say better than Starbucks? *gasp* I know… I was shocked as well.

It was really hard to deal with. My shame and addiction ran so deep that I actually bought a set of Starbucks travel mugs and would fill them with Dunkin Donuts coffee to disguise my shame and outright betrayal. All of the sneaking around, bowing my head in shame as I cradled my **sigh** Dunkin Donuts styrofoam cup. Styrofoam folks! Now I’m no Greenpeace tree hugger by any means, besides the obvious lack of aesthetic appeal can we have a thought for the environment Dunkin? What’s up with that? Can I get an option of an eco-friendly coffee cup?

But alas… never fear. The tryst has been put to rest. I’m back Starbucks, loyal as ever.

3) showing up to the gym in full makeup and hair completely immboilized with hair spray

2) watching the food network, paul dean in particular while on the treadmill

1) sipping a starbucks latte while working out (witnessed that act just this morning... I'm still stunned)

Now you may have heard the hype on this flick. But I am here as your faithful yet random movie critic to certify this movie as a MUST SEE. Don't wait for the DVD or cable release for this one. This all star cast does an amazing job. You get the broadway musical feel along with acting that dare I say is shockingly impressive. Of course I expected good acting and even singing from Jaime Fox and Eddie Murphy (who can forget that 80s hit 'my girl likes to party all the time'?). Beyonce's acting was surprisingly convincing, quite an improvement from the Pink Pather. But that Jennifer Hudson is THE SHOW STOPPER. She was no less than totally amazing. There is this one scene where she belts out a song that will make you tear up if not weep outright. I love a good Cinderella story. This movie is a Cinderella story within itself. You can't help but watch the movie and cheer for Jennifer the whole time thinking silently to yourself, "that's right Jennifer... show Simon Cowell he was wrong wrong wrong about you... you are a STAR! sing it girl". Seriously random fans, listen to me now and thank me later... go see this movie!!!

The Good Shepherd

This is a good movie, however, I will forewarn you that it is slow moving in building the plot. You really have to pay close attention to details that would ordinarily seem innocuous. Its very well written story about the early days of covert CIA-esque operation with the back drop of historical events from WWII through the Cuban Missle Crisis. It was quite intriguing for this lay historian to consider yet another perspective on very well known events in American history. If you are into thinking while you watch a movie and have some basic (maybe 6th grade level) of american/world history you will enjoy this flick.

Okay.. first things first. I 'saw' this movie the other night, however I fell asleep after the first 40 minutes and woke up in time to see the last 20 minutes. Now, please understand, my blissful slumber is no reflection on how good or bad this movie is. If anything, its more of a reflection of the fact that I truly cannot be awake for more than 16 hours at a time on any given day. Okay, so all this aside, from what I saw of the movie I can confidently say that this was a quality film. Excellent story line, excellent acting, excellent cinematography. I wouldn't steer you wrong. Trust me on this.

Now I don't know much. But I know a good movie when I see one. This movie was awesome!!! Its a bit slow to start but pay attention the plot twists will leave you guessing. I personally liken the plot to Law & Order meets Back 2 the Future (specifically the 2nd in the the triology for plot complexity.) All in all very good date movie. Gives you plenty of stuff to talk about post movie. Go out and see it... I highly recommend this flick!

Okay.. I'm am an online shopper extraordinare, however, I take personal offense to the common practice of many online retailers.

Here's my gripe, when I go to your brick and mortar store you give me FREE gift boxes. (yes you Nordstrom, Banana Republic, J Crew and the rest) . So, WHY in the hell do I have to pay for the same freaking gift box when I shop at your on-line stores? Especially during the holiday season.

That practice really pissses me off.. Is my money less green on-line therefore I don't deserve the same service? If anything from an operational cost perspective its far cheaper for you retailers when I shop online. Therefore shouldn't there be MORE benefits to me as a consumer?? AT the very least I deserve equitable treatment e.g. freaking gift box for FREE like you can get in the retail outlet.

Is any one else outraged by this common practice or is it just me??

Now, don't get it twisted. I am by no means an overly zealous patriotic political maven. However, I do firmly believe, that voting is a right that should NEVER be treated with apathy.

Is the system perfect? No.

Is there a perfect candidate that genuinely respresents all of your fundemental values and beliefs? Hell NO.

However, the right to vote is a right for which people worldwide throughout history and still to present day, have fought and died. This fact alone makes it a personal imperative for me to fully participate in the voting process. Its my right and duty as a responsible adult.

This movie is not at all what I thought it would be. I guess I'm a purist in some sense. I like a movie that based on a speicfic time period, to I don't know make me feel like I'm back in that time period. I think the modern day music throughout the movie is was ruined that effect for me. The fact that this movie was about a nortiorious historical persona and her life, is what leaves me bothered by this movie. Throughout the movie I was waiting to learn more about Marie as a person, the intricacies of the French politics leading up to the French Revolution.... *sigh* I was left to fill in the historical blanks myself. In short, if you have a deep interest in French culture or history and are looking to learn more, then this movie isn't for you. Although the movie did give you a good sense of the opulance of the french monarchy, I would recommend that you visit Versailles yourself rather than see this flick.

Oh, and did I mention, that they don't even speak french in this movie? qu'est-ce que c'est environ ? comment insultant!

Ya know.. at first it was mildly amusing, but now its just plain annoying. My curent phone number is similiar to the local WOK express therefore I am tortured DAILY with calls through out the day for orders of wonton soup, general tso's chicken and moo goo gai pan. **boggle**

Thanks to modern telecommunications technology, I actually recognize the names/phone numbers of certain take out diners that repeatively disturb the tranquility of my home and answer the phone, "You have the wrong number. This is NOT Wok Express". Do you know on occassion some of these patrons actually have the nerve to argue with me and insist that they DID dial Wok express and that I am wrong? **double boggle**

Hey ramdon fans. This is actually a more serious blog entry for you guys. Over the past year, I have had friends and colleagues who have been pickpocketed in different places across the americas, in eeriely similar circumstances....

SCENARIO #1: Denver, Colorado
My colleague was enjoying a quick lunch at a local baja fresh. Her purse was placed "securely" on the back of of her chair.When she got up to ready to leave the resturant her purse felt significantly lighter. She looked inside to find her wallet missing!
moment of opportunity: In retrospect she remembers feeling a slight bump and her purse moving ever so slightly while she was eating.

SCENARIO #2: Washington, DC
A good friend of mine stopped at Quiznos in the middle of her day to have lunch. Her purse was positioned "securely" on the side of her chair. Some men came in and tried to strike a up a conversation with her and thereafter seated themselves uncomfortable closely to her at the very next table. Later, she looked in her wallet realize that ALL of her credit cards and bank cards had been stolen.
moment of opportunity: She felt her bag move ever so slightly while she had lunch. She got up for a brief moment to refill her drink.

SCENARIO #3: Ontario, Canada
A colleague of mine was working on her laptop at a local starbucks coffee shop just the other day. At one point she realized that her purse that was "securely" hanging from the back of her chair, underneath her coat was in fact missing. When she noticed her purse was missing she immediately asked questions to the people around her, notified the manager and searched both the men's and women's restrooms to see if her purse was dumped in either one. Minutes later she stepped outside to use her cellphone to notify the authorities and deactivate her credit and bank cards. When she walked back in, the manager in charge informed her that her purse had been found in the ladies room. **boggle** yes, as I said, she had only moments before checked the ladies room. Clearly the thief was still in her midst the very moment she realized her purse was missing . Moreover, that theif was able to fly under the radar of suspicion the entire time she was in the shop searching for her missing bag.
moment of opportunity: she got up momentarily to say hi to a friend who walked into the coffee shop.

Here's what I have assessed. From each of these scenarios there are a few commonalities about the way these pickpockets operate:
1. they are watching you closely and KNOW where your wallet is located.
2. they are professional opportunists and extremely patient, waiting for the few brief seconds that your guard may be down
3. they need only seconds to rip you off - they move quickly when in the act of stealing..
4. they frequent the quick stop places where your guard might be at its lowest, e.g. the comfort of a coffee shop.

With that in mind here are my random tips to help ward off the potential of being the prey of a pickpocket.

1. Take the extra few seconds to put your wallet away safely and securely. Ladies, for you that means, zipping, buckling or snapping your purse completely shut!
2. Keep your purse/wallet keenly on your person and in your line of sight at ALL times.
3. Be aware of your surroundings, I'm not suggesting that you be paraniod, but the people who are pickpockets are experts at blending into their environments.
4. Have a ready and accessible list of the #'s that can call to immediately turn off your credit and bank cards.

No, I am not an expert in criminology, but I watch A LOT of Law & Order so that must count for something. But, here is some more official documentation for your reference...

... you realize you have coupons for everything... I'm talking everything people... for example... I recently took a flight where I sincerely relishled my cheapness. Why prey tale? I had a coupon, yes a coupon, for a free drink on my flight with Delta.

Long story short, I saved myself 5 bucks and put a Cheshire cat like smile on my face the whole way down. Gotta love it!

Rating: BRAVO (rating system)

This movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg AND Martin Sheen. Its about loyalty, treachery, family, love, greed. I don't really want to get too much into the story line. I don't want to spoil it for you. I will say that if mind seeing people get brutally killed and/or if you are sensitive to foul language you might not be too keen on this flick.

Sidebar: Leonardo somehow relinquished his elfin magic looks and turned them in for a very mansculine mystic. Yeah.. he's pretty darn hot. excuse me HOT yeah.. with a capital H in this movie.

Okay.. back to the review. The storyline..let's say there are enough twists and turns to keep you fully engaged and thinking. I won't tell you much more than, you have to see this movie and share your review with us when you do!

Little Miss SunShine

This movie is funny. I mean really funny, laugh out loud funny. That is of course if the span of your sense of humor extends to finding humour in the misfortunes of others. The movie is about an exceedingly dysfunctional family and their encounters as they travel to California have the youngest of the clan compete in the "little miss sunshine" paegent.

Sounds lame, but trust me, the level of dysfunction is both heartwarming and hiliarious.

PEE-YOU - Yeah .. as in it STANK...Never watch this movie.. not even if someone else is paying... not even when it shows up on cable.. did you hear me? NEVER!

eh -Matinee material at best, but you can definitely wait for the cable release on this... not pay per view.. premium station release.

BRAVO - Definitely worth the premium movie ticket plus popcorn and/or nachos. Quality entertainment! Good date movie.

CLASSIC - Not only should you pay for premium tickets and snacks, but you might feel compelled to pay to see it again in the theater not to mention buy the DVD when it comes out.

Yes, the maker of handbag, luggage and other accessories. How did Coach earn this distinction you ask? Well.. I was strolling through my neighborhood Target (tar-zhay) the other morning and to my horror, saw a COACH display in the purse section. Yes.. you connected the dots correctly they are selling COACH now at your local Target.

I know what you are thinking. Why the hell would they COACH do that?

Well, for us learned business people this is a classic business mistake that high end brands seem to repeat. For example, BMW did it with the BMWti… remember those.. long story short, BMW wanted to expand their market reach by appealing to a lower end of the car market. Viola they came up with the more affordably priced BMWti complete with cloth interior. Guess what? The BMWti sold very well. However, the much higher end BMW’s (e.g. 7 series) dropped off in sales.. Why, because people who spend 80K+ on a car don’t want to be associated with those who spend 18K on a car.. sounds harsh but hey.. its true.

All that to say, “Coach, you can’t be all things to all people”. No Coach, you aren’t Prada or Tod’s in the realm of high end luxury.. but you certainly cannot keep a customer like myself interested nor increase your floundering cachet sandwiched between the feminine products and pet food aisle.

... a foiled plan to be a cheapo!

At my local starbucks, every 8th coffee you purchase is free. So as a miserly practice I get the cheapest coffee (house blend drip) for the first 7 and a super duper starbucks classic fancy coffee as my 8th. Today, I swore this was my 8th coffeee.. so being the cheapee that I am and needing to maximize the free-ness.. I ordered the biggest most expensive coffee on the menu only to learn that I bought my 7th freaking coffee not my 8th and a vanilla biscotti to boot.

Total damage: $4.99

damn... damn.. double damn!!!

Yeah.. I finally DID IT!!! I joined a fantasy celebrity league!!!

That's right... uh huh..you heard me.. It works just like fantasy sports leagues, but instead of your players scoring points for a touchdown or homerun, they score points for crazy outbursts, divorces, new boyfriends, or whatever other crazy BS these celebs get into.
Pretty fun huh? I thought so too...

So while the lot of you are flipping stations sunday and monday nights trying to keep a tally of all of your different players, lamenting over your draft picks and trades, I'll be flipping casually through my US Weekly, Star, In touch, .. ya get the picture...
